I know he started Richard Diamond, Private Detective in '49.
Do you happen to know what other project(s) may have kept him from taking the role?

My dad was actually personal secretary to Dick Powell back about the time he was married to Joan Blondell, Dad never mentioned anything about Powell and YTJD to me.
I figure Powell was probably busy with Richard Diamond or doing B movies.

Thanks for sharing personal memories of the golden age of radio. I really enjoy Dick Powell as Richard Diamond, especially the episodes that were sustained by the network. In my humble opinion, he was the best Dollar after Bob Bailey.

He also Richard Rogue(1945+) and (at age 40) Philip Marlow through 1944-1945 in movies and radio before Bogart. Richard Diamond (1949-1953), while starring a lot of movies and sitting in the directors chair at times. At the end of Diamond's run Powell was 50 (born 1904) and still in a few acting roles. Pretty sure from that point he was aiming to just direct for TV. I'm not surprised he didn't take YTJD.

Might not all be exactly correct, let me know if I'm way off.
